The future of research and open source

Academic research is changing. Fundamental incentivization models are shifting towards a future that is more collaborative, more transparent, and more open. As the products of academic research become more widely available, more accessible, and less esoteric, we will begin to see new kinds of Open Source communities of contributors working together on a particular research stream. What implications will this have for the Open Source community as a whole and how will this impact technology transfer from academia to industry?
