This talk covers the Read the Docs story of attempting to build a sustainable OSS project. We attempted a number of different ways of building a sustainable project, eventually settling on what worked for us, which might also help other folks building open source.
Read the Docs has tried just about every different method of funding. We have found two to be successful (ads/sponsorships & commercial hosting), and are currently building a third model around grant funding. We’d love to share these different ways of cobbling together revenue with the community to help expand the ability of the OSS community to have larger sustainable projects.
